Life doesn’t always go the way we planned. Differences and unforeseen events can lead to things literally shattering right before our eyes and it can be difficult to know where to begin to pick up the pieces. Loss, or relationship break-ups leave us wondering whether there is any way to put it all back together. Could life ever be beautiful again?
Being a glass artist has made me see things a little differently.
While it is true that the life we knew may never be the same, and it is impossible to go back to what was, I believe at the end of the day that brokenness isn’t something to hide. Instead, I’ve found great solace in accepting my brokenness because I’ve seen how it has made my life, while vastly different from what I expected, even more beautiful than it was before!
My work as a glass artist is about creating beauty out of brokenness.
There’s something very satisfying about strategically breaking and then using those small precious glass pieces to create a unique piece of glass art. There’s no attempt to make it look new or hide the “scars” of its brokenness, but to create something more beautiful than when it was before.
