“If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude.” -These were the famous words by Maya Angelou that I’ve been contemplating recently as I plan my work and commissions for the second part of this year.
I’ve always been used to dealing with change.
I’ve lived in 5 different places. I run a successful art business which means that I always have to be constantly evolving and adapting to change.
I never really sit still and love to plan my next travel adventure as soon as I get home.
The notion of change is also deeply reflected in my glass art – breaking glass to create beauty out of brokenness. This act of transforming brokenness into beauty resonates deeply with our own human experiences.
At some point in our lives we all have moments of setback, of loss and even heartbreak which can leave us feeling broken and lost. But within those broken pieces lies the potential for real growth. Those experiences make us stronger, more resilient, and ultimately, more beautiful.
I’ve also embraced the need for change by stepping outside my comfort zone as a glass artist by experimenting with watercolors and lucite ink. I am always sketching when I’m travelling so I love off-the-cuff creations. Creating with watercolors has provided me with a different outlet for my creativity using color, depth and patterns.
In my “FAITH” series, I created a kaleidoscope world using ink and watercolor that are available in larger and miniature sizes.
My latest watercolor collection, “VENETIAN VIEWS II” is a reflection of how my experiences as an artist has shaped me, changed me and touched so many different parts of my life. I’m inspired so much by the beauty of nature all around us that I felt the need to express it through this pastel watercolor, kaleidoscope lucite series.
Being able to embrace the flow of the river is what makes us more resilient. And this is what creates a mindset that allows us to follow our dreams while navigating the rapids, the bumps and beautiful waves of life.
