Introducing new “Faith” series using a new medium

After saying for so long that I wanted to experiment with a new medium, I decided to try my hand at lucite, and I’m so excited to be sharing this fresh new medium which I recently launched at our “RECHARGED” art show in Dallas two weeks ago.

I’ve always been drawn to the creative possibilities a kaleidoscope gives to an otherwise normal scene. The depth of color and endless configurations invites each of us to change our perception by slowing down to examine how we see things. I’m thrilled it holds even more true when applied to my artwork.

In my “Faith” series, I have created a kaleidoscope world using first ink and watercolor, each initially made using the blind contour method of drawing in a continuous line with my eyes closed.

The inspiration for this new series and medium was a result of a lot of prayer and meditation over how my world has changed yet stayed the same; how I felt stuck yet, in retrospect, transformed over time; how I grieved and yet was comforted in trusting my struggles were part of a bigger picture.

The resultant artwork of blind faith under layers of intentional color represent the bigger picture and what I believe it looks like for me to truly live in the presence of God.

My “FAITH” series feature strong, vibrant colors and bold brushstrokes alongside delicate drawings that show balance and harmony. Each unique piece captures different aspects of my faith; the fact that we are all part of something far greater than ourselves, and that we have to first learn how to trust before we can see how God answers prayers in unexpected ways.

“FAITH” is also in its essence a journey of transformation and change, and how the person who begins the journey looks different than the one who finishes it.
