How glass art can help us stay in the present moment

I spent most of the last week finishing off my “String Series.” It was a frustrating yet rewarding week because it is a big project that I’ve been trying to finish for some time. When I look back at the finished artwork, I realized that more than anything I really enjoyed the process and journey of creating each individual piece, perhaps even as much as arranging and admiring the finished installation.

I’ve learned so much recently that patience can take you places you never knew existed, just by simply slowing down and living in the moment.

Reminding yourself to stay present

As a busy glass artist with a studio to run, I’m always multi-tasking. I always have to remind myself to stay present and in the moment, and not always look to finish everything so quickly. The journey, or process is often more enjoyable than the finished results. If you keep getting sucked into the past and the future, it can leave you forever worn out and feeling out of touch with yourself.

The link between the past and the future

While we try to live in the moment, it’s good to reflect on both the past and the future sometimes.

Where would we be if we didn’t look back over our past successes and mistakes and learn from them? And where would we be if we didn’t have a future to plan for and work towards?

“FORWARD” was inspired by the juxtaposition of old and new in Santorini, Greece. It’s about the link between the past and the present and how it leads us into the future.

This glass art mural may just help to remind us that by living in the present moment, it will lead us to the future that we aspire to.
