This week marks International Women’s Day, a day to celebrate women’s equality, eliminate discrimination and bias between genders and celebrate women’s achievements.
Throughout history, there have been many women who have considerably impacted the world as we know it today. From individuals such as Maya Angelou who fought back against a society filled with racism and prejudice, to women’s rights activist Susan B. Anthony to Marie Curie founding the science of radioactivity and Rosalind Franklin discovering the structure of DNA, women have continually impacted social, cultural, economic and political developments over the course of history. It’s incredible that even today we are still being affected by gender bias and discrimination, so on International Women’s Day this year, it is more important than ever to appreciate such achievements.
To mark International Women’s Day 2022 in Dallas, I wanted to celebrate local female artists that I’m fortunate enough to share an art studio with on Dallas’ famous Dragon Street.
Melissa Ellis

Specializing in bold, heavily-textured abstract oil paintings, Melissa creates brilliant patterns in her work by applying thick oil paint to the canvas with her unique style of palette knife painting. I love the way she creates striking motions, patterns, texture and depth in each of her paintings.
Christi Meril

This woman has color and style in abundance! Her work stirs up such incredible emotion and
exemplifies the cross between nature and urban life using vibrancy and human connection. Christi also uses a variety of mediums, many from the natural world such as wood and resin, integrating them within her paintings and sculptures.
Annie Griffeth

Annie Griffeth is a versatile illustrative artist who infuses magical realism throughout her bold mixed media art. Each of her pieces tell a story that evoke real emotions as well as celebrating everyday joys and challenges.
