ALG Fine Art’s Visiting Artists Show is such an exciting event for me. As the Gallery Director, I get to curate an art show with a variety of voices, stories, and artistic expressions. As a Resident Artist, I also get to share my interpretation of the theme.
I’m so proud of what has emerged from my exploration of “Poetic License – Art to Navigate a Beautiful, Messy World.”
The Visiting Artists Show
When we picked our theme “Poetic License,” we wanted to find poetry we could use to inspire the submissions of the Visiting Artists and create an aligned art show. J.K. Kennedy’s Clumsy Beauty was the perfect fit.
I’m drawn to J.K. Kennedy’s poetry because she can put an entire feeling and valley of truth into very few words. The resulting artwork is a testament to both artistic process and personal truth.
We chose four poems to be the four acts of our show –
- “Creativity” the chaotic and beautiful beginnings.
- “Experiments” the freedom of trying, failing, and finding yourself.
- “The Destination” the moments that turn into memories.
- “From the Thought Pile” the joy found in life’s little things.
As soon as we decided on the poems as inspiration, my creativity was buzzing.
“Bloom & Sigh”
Displayed at the top of the stairs when entering ALG Fine Art, this piece opens the show, inspired by the first act poem “Creativity.” It’s a true colliding and harmonising of creativity as I made it in collaboration with Melanie Brannan. This is what happens when two artistic visions meet.
I am passionate about forging flowers that last. Melanie is called to interweave movement within still life. We find connection in our love for the old impressionist masters. Combining our talents and passions, we’ve formed a piece where glass, paint, and texture merge, just like how our artistry has merged in an exciting new direction that we couldn’t have achieved alone.
The meeting of my glasswork and Melanie’s signature Impressionist brushstrokes creates a vibrant fusion of color, texture, and dimension. At the same time, it represents the heart of the Visiting Artists Show – collaboration and what we can achieve together.
The rest of the artwork from the Visiting Artists Show is yet to be revealed. Be one of the first to see it by booking tickets to the Opening Night Reception on Saturday, October 4th. Tickets are free but limited so secure yours ASAP.
