Travel-Inspired Artwork to Express Your Wanderlust

If you know me, you know I love to travel! I get so excited about exploring new places and it’s great inspiration for my artwork. I always bring some watercolors, pencils, pastels, and art supplies with me because my fingers get itchy and I need to create.

I also love artwork that is inspired by an artist’s impressions of a destination. They are my favorite kind of keepsakes to remember a trip. I’ll collect art from places I haven’t even been to yet as a different way to express my wanderlust! I can be transported to so many places through my art collection.

If summer has sparked wanderlust in you, browse my travel-inspired pieces. They’re ready to take you away on an adventure!

“Let It Be I & II”

This two-piece glass mural is my impression of Mont Sainte-Victoire which featured in a series of paintings by Cézanne. What surprised me most about getting down my initial impressions of the mountain was how the light shifted and completely changed the view in front of me. I had to learn to let it be which is reflected in the process of creating this glass mural. The glass pieces were forged by throwing a bag of glass off the roof of ALG Fine Art, letting the shards form organically.

“Wild & Windblown I”

This vintage mirror and glass art fusion represents sitting by the lake as I have done many times on family trips. The mirror replicates the surface of the water while I used colored glass pieces to create flowers dancing in the wind. Just looking at it, I can almost feel the wind blowing across my face as the flowers dance around me.

“Tuscan Hills I”

This is a watercolor kaleidoscope print capturing the scene visible from my villa at sunset when I visited Tuscany while traveling across Italy to study under a Glass Master. As the sunset got richer and rosier before ebbing away, I would paint my impressions of the hills changing in the transition from day to night.

“Venetician Views II”

Another watercolor kaleidoscope print from my time spent studying under a Glass Master in Italy, this one captures a different view. I stayed on the glass island of Murano in a tiny top floor apartment. I would sit on the roof and paint the water traffic going by on Murano’s Grand Canal. It was such a calming sight to see narrow boats and wide vaporettis bobbing and passing in front of the beautiful old buildings.

“French Reflections I”

How about escaping to the French countryside? The delicate strokes and colors of this kaleidoscope print form my impressions of the views as I traveled through the countryside during my artist residency in France. It was a time of simplifying expectations, embracing curiosity, and breaking down perfectionism. I still feel that sereneness when I look at this piece.

“Evening in Paris”

This one is a night scene so I play with colors and light in a completely different way. It’s based on a drawing I did during my final evening in France after journeying throughout the country visiting places at the heart of Impressionist art. I experimented with a fusion of aqua and pastels to create the dreamlike darkness. It’s brimming with gratitude, appreciation, and hope for the future.
