This collection explores how modern art engages in dialogue with the past, present, and future, honoring history while reimagining it in a way that speaks to today.

Immersion—immersion in nature, in urban settings, in movement, sound, and texture. They reflect the energy of cities, the rhythm of landscapes, and the balance between raw, natural materials and refined, modern forms. Whether through salvaged old-growth redwood, sculptural additions, neon, or canvas, each piece carries a sense of presence— rooted in history but transformed into something entirely new.

"Reviving Giants" is a journey, not just an exhibition. It's an invitation to step into a world where ancient redwood whispers stories of resilience, and modern art pulses with the raw energy of urban life. - Christi Meril

Opening April 26th, 2025 – June 2025.

Tradition, Majesty, and the Intersection of Worlds

This exhibition celebrates the tradition and majesty of wood, a material that embodies the earth's provision. As Meril says, “When you are stripped down to your most basic needs, wood is there. It’s oxygen, shelter, firewood, and paper. When I think of past, present, and future I keep coming back to provision, that no matter what’s been happening in my life, there's been provision. I trust that will continue, but also that’s what I’m trying to continue with my art – particularly the old-growth redwood.”

The shapes within "Reviving Giants" represent the intersection of urban and nature, a visual dialogue that speaks to the heart of Christi's artistic vision. It's about telling the journey of the commonplace and taking everyday materials like paper, and reimagining them as fine art.

"Reviving Giants" is a deeply personal journey for Christi. “This past year, in particular, has been one of deep growth—learning how to stand alone, trust my own instincts, and push forward with my vision in a way I never have before. When I look at my present, things are very raw right now," she shares. "This show has been a lifeline for me. It has been a year of perseverance, both personally and professionally, but on the other side of it, I feel stronger, more confident, and more excited about this collection than ever.”

This collection is a testament to resilience, to owning the past, living in the present, and claiming the future, a legacy forged in the heart of nature and the spirit of renewal.

From Forest to Form to Grounding and Provision

Christi's process is a balance between intuition and intention, evolving as each piece comes alive. It is a balance between 2D and 3D works, blending raw, salvaged, and new materials to create contemporary fine art. She transforms salvaged redwood into modern wall sculptures, incorporating hand-painted canvas and mixed media to create layered, dimensional forms. Christi is creating fully realized canvas paintings, then cutting and reshaping them into sculptural forms that interact with the redwood in new ways. This process is both exciting and sacrificial—some of these canvas paintings take weeks to complete, only to be deconstructed and reshaped to become part of something even larger. Paint, paper, nails, and resin intertwine, building depth and texture that resonate with both the natural and the industrial.

"Thinking of past, present, future, I keep coming back to provision," Christi reflects. "No matter what’s been happening in my life, there’s been provision, we have our basic needs met, and I have to trust that that will continue. That’s what I’m trying to continue with my art, keep providing."

This show is a turning point, a moment where Christi fully embraces her vision. "It’s a mix of old-growth redwood that I hand-selected in Northern California, turned into these incredible modern sculptures, along with paintings on canvas and linen, and even some neon and infinity mirror pieces. It’s all about transformation—giving new life to these massive, centuries-old pieces of wood and blending raw, organic textures with really contemporary, unexpected elements."

Old-growth redwoods are the perfect medium for this work as it tells a true story of resilience and transformation. After being almost wiped out by the timber industry in 1850-1950, they became protected but are still very rare. Christi finds them washed up on the beach after all these years and her art gives them a second life, finally appreciating their majesty.

“The decision to incorporate paper as a sculptural material came in 2020, during the COVID shutdown, when I spent six weeks in the Rocky Mountains, hiking daily with my dog. It was during this time that I decided to finally bring sculpture into my work, something I had envisioned for years. Because paper is a byproduct of wood, it felt like the natural material to use as I built on my long-standing connection to working with wood as a canvas.”

Experience the Emotion

"I want people to leave 'Reviving Giants' feeling like they’ve experienced something truly special," Christi says. "The works should stir emotions—whether it’s a memory, a feeling, or simply the energy of the show. When viewers step into Reviving Giants, I want them to feel a deep sense of presence, reflection, and connection—to be immersed in the scale, textures, and histories embedded in each piece. This collection is about resilience, transformation, and honoring the passage of time, and I hope that experience translates to those who engage with the work.

“If there’s one thing I want people to take away from this show, it’s that Reviving Giants is something truly special—something they haven’t seen before. I want them to leave feeling like they just experienced a major, top-tier exhibition, the kind of contemporary fine art show that belongs in a city like Dallas.

“I want them to recognize the depth of the work—not just in the materials, but in the way modern and organic elements come together in a way that feels unexpected yet completely intentional. I want them to feel the presence of these pieces, the way they command space, the way they merge history with something bold and forward-thinking.”
