Gallery Director Diaries: Helping other artists find their voice

Our Visiting Art Show “Own Your Story; Write Your Own Ending” brought over 300 art collectors through our studio doors in October. We sold more art than any other show we’ve ever done. It was beyond amazing and I’m so thrilled about it!

This Brene Brown inspired exhibit showcased over 20 artists from Dallas and the wider community, sharing personal narratives from a variety of perspectives, empowering us all to embrace our past and take charge of our future.

Something I noticed when putting this art show together and reading the stories behind each piece, is how it has helped the artists find their voice. This is something that I found so joyous as Gallery Director.

Every single artist who exhibited truly explored their identities, beliefs, and passions, ultimately uncovering their unique artistic voice during the process.

For some, it was how they processed the memories and emotions of the past to unburden themselves and understand where they have come from and where they want to go. For others, it has been a vehicle for finding their voice and letting themselves be heard.

There was such a variety of work on display on our walls, each piece owning a unique and heartfelt story.

The real proof was in the number of pieces that sold that evening. The feedback was amazing and I’m so proud of the artists who put themselves forward to be part of this exhibit.

It just goes to show that when an artist can truly find their voice, their art resonates with everyone who sees it and it has the power to evoke strong emotions and inspire others.

Brene Brown said it best:

“When we deny our stories, they define us.

When we own our stories, we get to write the ending.”

When I set out to curate this show, I wanted to spotlight other brave artists who are doing the hard work to own their stories, raise their voices, and actively participate in writing their endings; taking the scary leap into the unknown.

I believe “a rising tide lifts all boats” – and for those of you who came to the art show that night, you are a part of that rising tide.

I’d love you to take a moment to browse through the work of this incredible art show here. Be inspired by how these artists have turned their stories into beautiful artwork for us all to enjoy.

There are a few remaining pieces available to purchase. Book an appointment with me using my online calendar if you are interested in purchasing these pieces: https://annalouglass.com/book-a-virtual-consultation/

Our next celebration will be a Fall Open House on Saturday November 16. A showcase for the whole family where you can acquire Fine Art and watch it being made.

It includes LIVE art demos at 1pm and 3pm and I’ll be running a Hot Glass demo at 2pm and 4pm. This event will be a kick off for the holiday Toy Drive, benefitting Dallas Children’s Advocacy Centre. Bring a toy to donate.

More details to be announced shortly.
