Gallery Diaries – How Christi Meril is Pushing the Boundaries of Modern Art

After sharing my own solo show at the beginning of this year, I’m now immersing myself in the role of Gallery Director for ALG Fine Art as we showcase Resident Artist Christi Meril. Her solo show “Reviving Giants: Nature | Form | Legacy” opened at the end of April and will be available to visit into June.

I’m so excited to bring this extraordinary collection to you!

Meet Christi

Christi Meril has been part of ALG since the beginning so I’ve had the privileged position to witness her growth as an artist. She has long been fascinated by merging natural landscapes and urban environments in her artwork, giving her a unique perspective. This has led to her being recognized for her multidimensional approach to fine art.

I’ve seen how art has been a lifeline for her. It’s her way of navigating personal challenges, persevering with her vision, and an exercise in building trust in her own instincts. Her creative process is both intuitive and intentional as she brings each piece to life by merging, blending, restructuring, and reshaping raw and modern materials.

The meaning is in the medium

Her themes, story, and energy can be encapsulated by the main material for her artistic exploration, salvaged wood. Combining the organic textures and ancient history of wood with modern art techniques that reflect urban life allows Christi to capture the dialogue between the past, present, and future.

It links back to her personal journey too. Wood represents majesty but it also represents provision. It’s a raw material that we needed to develop the modern world as it is today. Along the same lines, no matter what has been happening in her life, art has been there providing an outlet and means of expression.

Her next evolution

Her most focused and ambitious body of work to date, “Reviving Giants: Nature | Form | Legacy” is the next evolution of her artistic expression and pushes the boundaries of modern art.

Featuring sculptural works created from centuries-old redwood, contemporary paintings on canvas and linen, and collaborative neon installations, Christi bridges the gap between the natural world and urban life in a way only she can, reimagining unexpected materials as modern art.

Emotionally evocative, the artwork’s themes of resilience, renewal, and transformation prompt us to own the past, live in the present, and claim the future through the natural world. We can immerse ourselves in the movement and energy emanating from urban life, rugged coastlines, and high desert landscapes.

Experience it for yourself by visiting ALG Fine Art. Congratulations to Christi Meril for creating such a powerful and profound show!
