Celebrating Halloween in Dallas as an artist

Halloween is such a fun time of year. I love the way it inspires the creative mind; from making costumes and decorating with ghosts and goblins, to carving and painting pumpkins. For me, Halloween runs together with all of Fall, creating a whole season where creativity and imagination are encouraged to run wild!

Holiday season

I’m a sucker for holidays, and Halloween seems to kick off one of my fav three months of the year that leads us right up to Thanksgiving and Christmas.

The colors around us at this time of year are simply stunning; seeing the leaves change from luscious green to yellow and orange and then eventually crisp brown helps to reset my creative mind.

Fall traditions

I always kick-start the season at the Arboretum’s Pumpkin Village in Dallas. It has 90,000 pumpkins, gourds, and squash, hailing from THE pumpkin capital of Texas, Floydada, throughout the garden – and their pumpkin village is definitely worth a visit!

I love carving pumpkins using different colors and textures. Last year I added beads to my pumpkin to give it some extra texture and personality!

Halloween is a magical time where I reconnect with so many friends and neighbors. It’s truly such a fun time socially!

I’m still working on my costume for this year’s celebration, but let’s just say it will be scream-worthy (spoiler alert!)

Last year I went more ‘low key’ as Empress of the World with an intricately beaded headdress, which had everyone howling every time I didn’t fit through a standard door!

Even Muggles can create a bit of magic

Another Halloween tradition I have in my home is to re-watch all of the Harry Potter movies in order. What better way to celebrate Halloween than watching movies about witches, wizards, and magic all cosied up? My ideal Harry Potter movie marathon is only complete with pumpkin spiced lattes, fluffy blankets, and Halloween candy.

However you choose to celebrate Halloween, be sure to let your creativity run wild, and don’t forget to tag @AnnaLouGlass in your Halloween pics and costumes!
