At the beginning of November, we had the joy of welcoming Skylar Craver as our new Gallery Manager at ALG Fine Art. She has a long-held love for art and a rich background of experience in art marketing and sales to support our artists in connecting with collectors and growing their creative careers.
Her passion for the arts is to create and curate as she loves to paint herself. Among the artists she is inspired by are Dan Flavin, Jackson Pollock, Frida Kahlo, Yayoi Kusama, and Frank Stella. One of her favorite things to do is add to her gallery wall which is a combination of postcards from art exhibitions and her vinyl collection (she has over 400 records!) Here is an introduction to Skylar’s journey with art so far.
The creative spark lit in Dallas
Skylar grew up in the Dallas area so this is where she initially developed her love of art. In high school, encouraged by her teacher, she took AP Art to develop and refine her skills. At the same time, she sat on the student advisory board for the Nasher Sculpture Center. As one of the longest-standing members, she helped them create experiences that would be appealing to younger art lovers.
Continuing her art education at the college level, Skylar attained a Bachelor of Arts with a major in studio art (focused on drawing and painting) and a minor in art marketing and business. This gave her options in how she could build a career in the creative field. Alongside this, she did a development internship at the Nasher Sculpture Center, supporting with organisation and communication tasks as well as their campaign for North Texas Giving Day.
Skylar took opportunities to share her love of art with others, teaching at a private art studio here in Dallas. She got to work with people of all ages, kids, teens and adults, who were genuinely interested in art and how it could enhance their own lives.
Making her way in the art world
After moving to Colorado to explore new surroundings, Skylar spent 4 and a half years in gallery management at a large retail art gallery. She developed her skills in building relationships with buyers and helping find artwork that aligns with them, selling two-dimensional art, three-dimensional pieces and Native American jewelry.
Customers would go to the gallery to shop with Skylar. One gentleman would always visit on special occasions to find pieces for his loved ones including his mother on Mother’s Day and his wife on her birthday. Skylar became a trusted guide for art purchases, building personable relationships with visitors.
Skylar also continued developing her own body of work and used her creative skills to make murals for local businesses.
Coming home to ALG Fine Art
Now, Skylar is excited to be back in the Dallas art scene. One of the things she loves about it is how it’s constantly evolving. She’s noticed how the design district has grown to provide more opportunities for artists and more opportunities for us all to experience art. There’s so much potential, momentum and pride in the art scene in this city!
What drew her to ALG Fine Art in particular was the way we make art accessible. The open studio spaces mean we have artists creating alongside visitors viewing art. It breaks down the wall between the two, weaves personal connection into purchases, and facilitates the creation of lasting, meaningful relationships between artists and their collectors.
Skylar’s looking forward to assisting our collectors, creatives and art enthusiasts in finding art that’s right for their heart and their home. She’s an expert at helping people filter down exactly what they’re looking for, depending on why they are buying art and where they see it going in their home. She’s also great at making suggestions visitors wouldn’t think of themselves but still fit their criteria and they end up loving.
In her free time, Skylar enjoys working on her own art and spending time with her family. Now, they are back in Dallas, Skylar and her husband can take their baby to see places that were special to them growing up and throughout their relationship.
Visit ALG Fine Art to meet Skylar and receive support in making your next art purchase. Welcome to the team Skylar!
