Why This One Matters to Us
We do not rush our art shows. We would rather show art that means more, so each artist gets the room to be properly seen. “The Long Journey Home” has been a long time coming, and it is worth the wait.
Christi Meril has spent years on the move. Northern California. The Rockies. Santa Fe. New York. Each place left something with her. This show is what she brought home to Dallas.
It began as a show about objects. The things we pack and keep and cannot put down. Then it grew into something larger. Memory. Dreams. The people who shape us. The quiet work of finding your way back to yourself.
That is the heart of it. Home is not only the house you live in. It is the self you keep returning to.
We have watched this body of work come together over months, and it has moved us. We think it will move you too.
THE GALLERY
A Little About ALG Fine Art
If you have not been to us before, here is the short version. ALG Fine Art is a resident studio gallery in the Dallas Design District. Resident means our artists work in the building, so their studios are here alongside the gallery. Our resident artists are Christi Meril, Lisa Moriarty and Anna Curnes, and we keep a fourth room, the ALG Experimental Space, for work that is testing something new.
We show less often than most galleries around us, and we do it on purpose. It means every art show gets our whole attention, and the artist is properly seen. That is the whole point of working this way.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
The Story Behind Christi Meril
Christi is a founding resident artist at ALG Fine Art, at 1302 Dragon Street in the Dallas Design District. Her studio is in the building, and on the right afternoon you will find her at the bench rather than just her name on a wall.
Her work moves across canvas, wood and sculpture. She does not buy her materials off a shelf. She gathers them, carries them, and keeps them until they are ready. A place travels with the material, and the material carries that place into the work.
Christi has walked a long road to this show, and you can feel it. The work is warm. It is honest. It asks quiet questions, and then it lets you answer them for yourself.
This show has grown out of years of change in her life. She will tell you it is about coming home to herself, and about being grateful for the people who belong there. She has kept the specifics private, and the work is all the stronger for it. What reaches the wall is the feeling, not the diary.
THE MATERIALS
What Christi Makes and How She Makes It
There are twenty one pieces in “The Long Journey Home.” Every one of them holds a place.
Charcoal from a single fire
Christi draws with charcoal from one extinguished campfire at Ghost Ranch in Santa Fe. This is the land where Georgia O’Keeffe painted. She collected the charcoal in 2023 and has carried it ever since. One fire runs through the whole show.
Wood that remembers
There is old-growth redwood from the Northern California coast, standing beside paper she builds up by hand. She opens windows into the grain so you can see the raw wood beneath. The natural becomes man-made, and then finds its way back again.
What we carry
A series of plain paper bags, hand-cut, sewn back together, cast in resin and hung like stone. Ordinary on the outside. Open one up and the beauty is on the inside. It is a quiet idea about what we let people see, and what we choose to hold.
The smaller works
There is a set of small paper sculptures mounted on walnut, in cobalt blue, off-white and colour. They are made for the way people really live with art at home, and they are easy to fall for.
THE PALETTE
Colours Drawn From the Ground She Has Walked
The colours come straight from the places Christi has been. Adobe warmth from Santa Fe. Water and redwood from Northern California. Concrete from Dallas. Grounded and calm. Each place gave the work its colour, and Dallas is where it all came home.
None of it is loud. It is the kind of palette you could live with for years and keep finding new things in.
WHAT TO EXPECT
What to Expect From the Christi Meril Art Show
When you walk in, the familiar will be sitting next to the unexpected. That is the point. We want you to feel wonder, and a little curiosity, and to leave asking what parts of yourself you give yourself permission to bring home.
Some of it will feel like memory. Some of it will feel like a place you have been. That mix of the known and the new is what we hope stays with you on the drive home.
The Christi Meril art show opens on Saturday, October 3, 2026, from 5:30 to 8:30pm, here at ALG Fine Art in the Dallas Design District. Opening night is the first time these pieces are shown in public, so it is the night to be here.
