A Digital Walkthrough of “Breathing Space” by Lisa Moriarty

The solo art show by Lisa Moriarty, “Breathing Space,” is now open and available to view at ALG Fine Art until June 27th. This show has clear unifying themes, rhythm, translucency and the California Coast, which are expressed in different ways. Each piece offers a unique view of the grounding presence of the ocean, the memories that form us layer by layer, and the strength found in still moments.

To give you an idea of the range of artistry displayed in the show, here are 6 pieces that represent the power of Lisa Moriarty’s creative voice.

“She Walks to Oceano” is an unforgettable piece. The many layers of encaustic and paper on the wood panel create a sense of immersion. The varying blues and white and hints of gold draw the eye across the piece in awe and wonder.

“Coastal Veil” is created on an unmounted canvas, giving it amazing freedom of movement and a wave effect. The way the piece hangs casts light, shadows and ripples like the surface of the water. It’s incredibly atmospheric as “Coastal Veil” is inspired by the fog on the Northern California coast.

“Deep Water” uses encaustic-painted fabric on a wood panel to create an image of waves and the ocean in a whole new way. The dimensionality mimics movement and makes the artwork a soft place to land. Pause, breathe and notice.

“Diary of the Tide” combines a couple of techniques used throughout the show, the use of fragments and waves, as well as unique loose stitching, which provides additional depth to its storytelling.

“Drift Across the Orchard” brings the story of wood into the foreground. The use of encaustic wax adds to the texture of the wood beneath and paints it like a 3D landscape. The wood is salvaged from the old orchards of Silicon Valley, once known as the Valley of Heart’s Delight, an area of evolution and importance in Lisa’s own personal history.

“To The Surface” is a series of four pieces which embody Lisa’s mastery of her encaustic on wood panel technique within 8″ x 8″. The layering gives each a depth of color, texture and shape. The size makes them great gifts, choices for newer collectors, or art for smaller corners of your home.
