Commissioning a Dallas Artist

Commissioning a Dallas artist to make a custom-made piece of work for you can be both exciting and daunting at the same time. One of the reasons people commission an artist is because they can’t always find their exact requirements from work that’s already been created. They want something that deeply expresses their special moment, memories or personality traits. Yet being able to brief an artist about exactly what you want, and what your home interior style is like can feel overwhelming.

Understanding the commissioning process

From identifying whether an artist is the right fit for you, right through to choosing the concept, color scheme and size of a mural, it’s important to have a clear understanding of the commissioning process before you begin.

Personalize your space

Bespoke artworks are an excellent way to personalize your space and enhance a design scheme.

I always like to work collaboratively with my clients and visit the space where the commissioned work will be on display – whether it be a home, office, hotel lobby or other commercial enterprise.

This gives me a better sense of my client’s vision, and I can share ideas and inspiration to make the piece of work really stand out, including ideas on lighting, wall color and the furniture displayed around it.

Getting to know the artist and their work

As part of the process of choosing the right Dallas artist to commission, make sure you are familiar with the materials they use and how they like to work on a commissioning project (is it collaborative or one-sided?). Take the time to visit the artist in their studio to see how they work. Seeing their art on display may also give you inspiration about the size, colors and concept of your commissioned piece.

Sharing ideas with the commissioned artist

If you have very clear ideas about your commissioned art piece be sure to openly put forward the ideas that you want to be explored and express them clearly. Share colors and visuals early in the process and allow the artist some creative flex as they share ideas with you too.
