“Poetic License - Art to Navigate a Beautiful, Messy World”

Opening Saturday, October 4th

Inspired by the profound and insightful poetry of J.K. Kennedy and her captivating book, Clumsy Beauty, this year’s Visiting Artists Show promises to illuminate our world through the transformative power of art.

31 artists of a variety of mediums, styles and walks of life have created pieces reckoning with and embracing the beautiful contradictions of life – the sorrow and joy of creativity, the order and chaos of experiments, and the noise and quiet of one’s destination.

Structured into 4 acts, each united by a poem from J.K. Kennedy’s Clumsy Beauty as inspiration for their artistry, this curation of artwork traverses the valleys and peaks of the human experience.

  • “Creativity” - The spark, the process, the boundless imagination.
  • “Experiments” - The courage to try, to fail, to discover anew.
  • “The Destination” - The journey's end, the unexpected arrival, the meaning found.
  • “From the Thought Pile” - Finding happiness in the little things. (All the artwork in this category is 14x14” or smaller.)

The art show is available to view at ALG Fine Art from Saturday, October 4th, until Saturday, November 15th.

Meet the Visiting Artists using their “Poetic License”

Our Resident Artists, Anna Curnes and Christi Meril, are joined by nearly 30 Visiting Artists to explore, to question, to interpret, and to navigate the complexities of our existence.

Gallery Director, Anna Curnes, shares, “Our Visiting Artists Show is a unique opportunity to see an array of artists and artwork woven together in a narrative tapestry that moves, mirrors, and transforms us. This year’s theme “Poetic License” has inspired pieces that speak truth to the everyday messiness of life, offering comfort, challenge, and hope.”

Show your support for the Dallas art scene

We released an open call to all artists to take the themes explored in the poems of Clumsy Beauty and translate them into paintings, sculptures, and other visual storytelling. This art show is the result of the incredibly talented artists who shared their artistic perspective on the beautiful, messy world we live in.

Some are established artists. Others are making a name for themselves. They all have used their “Poetic License” beautifully, boldly, and with brave vulnerability.

By supporting the show, you are supporting all these artists in their creative endeavors - selling their artwork, connecting with collectors and opportunities, and raising their profile. It’s support like this that enables the Dallas art scene to thrive and inspire us all with moving art, evocative art experiences, and stories that matter.
