I’m so proud to be a glass artist. It’s a creative practice I’ve refined over years of study, trial and error, and evolution. Working in this medium brings me so much joy. Whether I’m sculpting with hot glass or piecing together sheets and shards of glass in a mural, the act of creating requires precision but also a surrendering to the process as the medium influences how the story is told.
The shape feels right. The placement feels aligned. The color combination pops. Not always in the way you’d expect.
There are so many dimensions to glass as an art form. How it picks up light, throws shadow and creates texture. It’s all in the creating. These are three forms in particular I’m drawn to again and again.
The Mural
I love to use glass pieces as brush strokes. Sometimes I hand-cut shapes with a vision in mind. Other times, I take from my store of thrown-glass pieces and let the organic shapes speak to me. My thrown-glass pieces are sheets of glass that were literally thrown off the roof of the gallery, letting fate split them into pieces. Laying glass pieces on top of and beside each other forms an image. Sometimes an abstract one. Sometimes a detailed one. The strength of the color can be what is most dazzling.

The Mirror
My glass murals have blossomed into mirror art. The mirror becomes the backdrop of the scene created with hand-cut and thrown glass pieces. Glass is already a reflective material. The mirror element engages light in a whole new way I just love. I also appreciate that the viewer can step into the artwork as they see themselves reflected back both literally and figuratively. The mix between functional home decor and fine art is an intriguing combination that makes these pieces feel even more accessible to some collectors.

The Sculpture
Another technique that I use when creating mirror art and standalone pieces is hot-glass sculpting. Heating glass with flames allows me to shape and form the medium into symbols of my story. It’s a very therapeutic process as it takes time, focus and a confident hand to mould the glass. The use of fire creates a sense of rebirth, like the mythical phoenix emerging from the flames. These pieces have so much fluidity yet strength to them.
