There is nothing like spending an afternoon immersed in artwork at a gallery and leaving feeling refreshed and reinvigorated. In the latest art show at ALG Fine Art, we have embraced the wellbeing benefits of art. “Breathing Space” by Lisa Moriarty is an invitation to pause, exhale and just be. The artwork is a soft place to land. We lose ourselves in the layers of encaustic and fabric, creating a visual rest stop that feels as meditative as watching the waves lap on the beach.
As the show comes to a close on June 27, we are hosting a special event to mark this incredible body of work and the impact it has had on all our visitors. Breathing Space Closing Breathwork Experience is taking place on Saturday, June 13th. You are all invited to this breathwork session led by Natalie Craver, a Licensed Professional Counselor and mindfulness practitioner, surrounded by Lisa Moriarty’s artwork.
Anchor to your breath as you immerse yourself in the art and experience the many wellbeing benefits.
The wellbeing benefits of artwork
- Presence – As viewing artwork is an activity we can do away from screens, it helps us connect with the present moment. We can let go of worries about what has happened or what will happen and focus on the artwork in front of us.
- Relaxation – Walking around a gallery is a relaxing environment. There is no rush, no deadline, no demands. Take in the artwork. Let your eyes wander across the piece, noticing both the intricate details and the overall impression.
- Belonging – Viewing artwork is an activity you can do with other people, starting conversations about how you each interpret the art. We can also experience belonging and connection when viewing art by ourselves. Seeing some of our own experiences depicted in art shows us that we aren’t alone.
- Emotional regulation – Artists express all kinds of emotions through artwork. This emotional expression helps us to process our own feelings as viewers. In the case of “Breathing Space,” Lisa has intentionally focused on what she is looking forward to, not what is currently being worked through to create a calming reset.
- Creative thinking – Whatever we are experiencing, opening our minds up to creative thinking is a good thing. It helps us to see new possibilities beyond what is in front of us. We can see a way forward, potentially multiple paths forward, and the hope that brings is so valuable.
Lisa Moriarty describes the impact of her artwork best, saying, “The expression is the place that is desired, not the place that is being worked through. I want to revisit where I want to end up.” Her artwork offers a place to rest from the demands of everyday life and to dream of what is to come. Paired with breathwork, this is a really special experience. Book your complimentary ticket to Breathing Space Closing Breathwork Experience on Saturday, June 13th. We look forward to welcoming you to a restorative and immersive morning.
