As a glass artist, I get to explore this material in many different forms. I’ve used cut glass and then developed a thrown glass technique where I’d take the naturally formed glass pieces as they were to recreate beautiful scenes. I also use hot glass to handcraft unique flowers, hugs, and more.
There are so many avenues for exploration. When I combine them, magic happens! That’s why I love adding mirror elements to my artwork. It adds another level of depth and space for exploration.
The form of mirror art
I have a variety of pieces that use mirrors. Some use beautiful vintage mirrors such as Free and Wild & Windblown I. For others, I’ve created custom frames like Let It Thrive and Drama Mirror I. Each time, I’ve layered other glass elements on top of the mirrors, whether thrown glass or hot glass. They play off each other, casting light, shadow, color, and shapes to add extra dimension to the piece.
The meaning of mirror art
Mirrors themselves are steeped in imagery, metaphors, and stories. They can be used to represent reflection, appreciation, and self-love. They could also create imagery around nature. The surface of a mirror often reminds me of the surface of a lake and how it reflects the colors and shapes of its surroundings.
The form and meaning of mirror art make it a great piece to add to your collection and display in your home. It will bring light, color, and intrigue wherever it is placed.
