We all have a favorite room in our homes. It could be the hustle and bustle of your family kitchen and den where you all hang out together, or perhaps it’s a more peaceful room where you can escape from everyone and have some quiet reading and reflection time. Whichever room it is for you, art can provide a focal point and help emphasize the mood and personality of your interior.
One of the most commonly asked questions I get asked is, “How do I choose art that compliments my home’s interior?”
Art is what helps express the personality of the homeowner and their space and it should be unique to the mood and personality of each room.
Here is some inspiration room by room to help you find the perfect art piece to complete your home interior:
For the kitchen
Kitchens are often referred to as the “heart of the home” and in many cases, the most used room of the house. It’s a place where all the family hang out and come together to talk about their day.
You’ll want to choose art that matches the vibe of you and your household. Colorful and vibrant colors will balance the neutrals of your kitchen cupboards and create a relaxed ambiance.
“DAILY LIFE”
Facing the push and pull of our “Daily Life,” this hand-cut, fused glass mural rises above the minutes to focus on the whole day, reveling in the balance we don’t always realize we are currently living out.
For the living room
This is probably the second most ‘lived in’ room of the house. For some, it’s a more formal space where people sit and chat after a meal, for others it’s a place to relax, watch television or read a magazine.
If you have a large wall you want to fill, go for art that makes a real statement and provides a focal point. It doesn’t have to be a print or canvas, sometimes it can take other forms such as glass.
For inspiration, consider “EXTEND.”
This piece expands beyond the physical allowing you to extend your mind and soul outward as far as you long to go. It’s colorful and the reflection in the glass will bring the illusion of more light and space into your living room.
For the bedroom
The bedroom is a retreat, a place where you relax and switch off, and the art you choose should reflect that. Often the best walls for art in the bedroom are directly over the bed or on the wall opposite the bed so you can be inspired from the moment you wake up in the morning.
Consider “ABUNDANCE.”
Overcome by a vibrant sky above a peaceful sea, this piece captures the magic of the day refreshing, bursting forth with the promise of abundance in each new beginning.
For the bathroom
Bathrooms often get neglected when it comes to adding the finishing touches. Despite the utilities, there’s still plenty of wall and worktop space to put to good use.
My vintage mirror collection not only serves a purpose for checking your reflection, they also add a splash of color and vitality to the space.
