Using creativity to reflect
I love this time in between Christmas and New Year. Those hazy days spending time with my family, either lazing by the Christmas tree in my PJs binging on shows or going on a winter walk with my friends and puppies and coming home to hot chocolate and cookies. I’m never quite sure what day it is, but it’s definitely a great time to pause and reflect.
Reflection is a great thing to practice because it allows us to pause and consider all of our achievements this year, plan our hopes for the year to come, discard the old and welcome the new.
It’s also a time to show ourselves some kindness and practice self-care – something that I don’t always do in the hustle of every day.
How I weave well-being into my art
Somehow even though I’m a professional artist, I still find being creative helps me relax, reflect and practice self-care.
While I was creating “GRACE MIRRORS” and adding the hot-sculpted white flower onto the mirror, it acted as a tangible reminder of everything I had achieved since opening my studio on Dragon Street and doing beautiful commissions for some of my favorite clients.
Creating art from some of my favorite places also gives me great joy. When I was standing looking at the Blue Church Domes of Oia in Santorini and gazing at the glittering Aegean Sea, I had to find a way to recall that very moment. When I returned, I created my Santorini collection, which I know one day will provide real inspiration for someone who dreams of traveling to new places or wants a treasured memory of their favorite destination.
So during this hazy (and lazy!) time in between Christmas and New Year, I encourage you to take time and reflect on all that you have achieved this year and what your hopes and dreams are for the next. You can be as creative as you want with vision boards or journaling or whatever helps you celebrate this year’s achievements and visualize and manifest what is to come.
C’mon…let’s bring 2022 in with a bang!
