Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays.
It gives us a little time out with our families to practice appreciation and gratitude for everything we have and every single person who has blessed us in our lives.
Here are some of the ways that I like to celebrate Thanksgiving:
Reflection time
Thanksgiving is the perfect time to reflect on what’s important to you, your family, and your work. It encourages me to practice quieter times of reflection and have a deeper sense of connection to my family and friends across the globe.
I encourage you to take some time out prior to Thanksgiving to meditate or reflect around every single blessing that you have been given and think about how lucky each of us are!
Hang out with the people you love
As you sit down for your Thanksgiving dinner with family and/or friends, go around the table and have everyone express what they are most grateful for. This can help create meaningful conversation during your time together and a sense of real joy as you realize how blessed you are.
Think about your community
Thanksgiving is not only a time to consider our immediate friends and family, but also our community who may be less fortunate than us. Some people may be spending Thanksgiving alone, or not able to afford the choice of food that’s on your table. Reach out to your local community and see where you can donate food, your time or money to those who are in need.
Remember friends and family further afield
There may be family and friends who you are not able to celebrate with in person so it’s important to make time to acknowledge your thanks for them. I prefer to reach out with at least a short, texted video if not a handwritten letter or card as I feel they mean so much more and show you’ve taken the time to think of them.
Oprah Winfrey once said: “Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough.”
So as the hustle and bustle of this holiday season begins, remember to give thanks and show gratitude to the special people in our lives.
Because it truly is a wonderful life to live!
