What started as a commission to recreate a glass version of the skyline picture that won Dallas the title of “Best International Skyline” amid fierce competition in USA Today’s 2014 poll, turned into a retrospective on my own views of my home city as I recreated it. Each building was cut and put together with my own nostalgia flooding through each iconic building of the skyline I grew up seeing on the horizon. The new parts I created with a sense of celebration that my home city has continued to grow and thrive, even without my daily supervision. Somewhere amid my careful precision and whimsical creativity, I fell in love with Dallas all over again as my final piece reflected not only who I was, but who I’ve become as well.
